In a testament to India's rising prominence in the global tech arena, Apple CEO Tim Cook recently expressed his contentment with the burgeoning developer community in the South Asian country. According to reports from news agency ANI, Cook highlighted India's transformation into a key market for tech giants, underscoring the significant attention drawn by its growing pool of developers.
"We have been very pleased that there is a rapidly growing base of developers in India. Apple is working all of the entire ecosystem from developer to the market to operations, the whole thing," ANI quoted Cook as saying in a post retweeted by MoS Electronics and Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar. The report further elaborated on India's status as a top priority for global tech companies, citing factors such as its abundant talent pool, cost-effectiveness, and stable supply chain environment.
Cook lauded Apple India's impressive double-digit revenue growth, describing the country as an "incredibly exciting market" and emphasizing its significance as a major focus area for the company. Despite a 4% drop in overall revenue and a 10% decline in iPhone sales globally, Apple achieved record revenues in India for the quarter ending March 2024.
"We did grow strong by double-digit, and so we were very, very pleased with that. It was a new March quarter revenue record for us. As you know, as I've said before, I see it as an incredibly exciting market, and it's a major focus for us," Cook remarked regarding Apple's performance in India.
Highlighting the strategic importance of local production in maintaining competitiveness, Cook emphasized the need to produce in India. "From a pragmatic point of view, you need to produce there (India) to be competitive, and so, yes, the two things are linked from that point of view, but we have both operational things going on, and we have to go to market and initiatives going on."
