New Highway Projects to Enhance Connectivity in Jaunpur District

Jaunpur, a historic district in Uttar Pradesh, is set to witness a significant infrastructural development with the construction of a new expressway. For the first time, a religious pathway will be established, connecting Ayodhya, Varanasi, and Mirzapur to Jaunpur. During his upcoming visit on Friday, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, will lay the foundation stone for this route.

The proposed expressway, stretching from Haouz to Purvanchal Vishwavidyalaya and from Purvanchal Vishwavidyalaya to Shahganj, will be constructed at a cost of ₹34.05 billion. Preparations are already underway at a war footing to commence the construction of this crucial infrastructure. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) will oversee the execution of this project.

Furthermore, as part of National Highway 135-E, the Jaunpur to Akbarpur stretch will witness the construction of a four-lane expressway. This segment, covering a distance of 31 kilometers from Devkali of Purvanchal Vishwavidyalaya to Shahganj, will be developed under Package-2, with an estimated cost of ₹15.11 billion. This initiative involves both road construction, amounting to ₹13.1 billion, and land acquisition, totaling ₹4.8 billion. Approximately 1,000 artisans from 81 villages will be involved in the land acquisition process.

Under Package-1, the expressway will extend from Sirakoni Haouz to Purvanchal, covering a distance of 29 kilometers at a cost of ₹18.94 billion. This route will traverse through 55 villages, significantly enhancing connectivity in the region. Both highways will be inaugurated by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, marking a significant milestone in the infrastructural development of Jaunpur district.
