BHU Students Demand Flag Hoisting: A Call for Patriotic Expression

In a stirring display of patriotism, students led by Vivek Singh at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) have initiated a sit-in protest at Singh Gate, demanding the hoisting of the national flag. Allegations have been raised against the university administration during this period, questioning their commitment to national pride.

For several months, students under the leadership of Vivek Singh (also known as Abhishek) have been advocating for the installation of a massive national flag within the university premises. Despite the formation of a committee by the university administration to address this demand, no further action has been taken. Vivek Singh expressed disappointment at the lack of enthusiasm from university officials regarding the installation of the national flag and even questioned their patriotism.

On April 9, following Vice-Chancellor's assurance, we concluded our hunger strike. It was promised that within a week, a large national flag would be erected within the Kashi Hindu University campus. However, no action has been taken so far by the university administration, prompting Vivek Singh to once again commence a hunger strike at Singh Gate, demanding the installation of the flag.

Despite the Vice-Chancellor's position, there has been no progress in implementing the students' demand. Frustrated by the lack of response, Vivek Singh has resorted to another hunger strike at Singh Gate, reiterating the students' demand for the installation of the national flag within the campus premises.

This call for the hoisting of the national flag symbolizes not just a physical representation of patriotism but also reflects the students' deep-seated reverence for the nation within the academic space of BHU. It highlights their unwavering commitment to uphold the principles of nationalism and reverence for the tricolor.

The resolute determination of the students, led by Vivek Singh, serves as a poignant reminder of the significance of patriotic expression within educational institutions. As the sit-in protest continues at Singh Gate, it beckons the attention of not only the university administration but also the nation at large, urging them to recognize and honor the essence of national identity and pride.
