Nishadraj Jayanti in Varanasi
Planning a visit to Varanasi on April 13th? While the Ganges is usually bustling with activity, this day holds a special significance as no boats will sail its waters. Why? Because it's Nishadraj Jayanti, a day when the Nishad community celebrates with reverence.
The decision to halt boat operations on April 13th was made during a meeting chaired by Pramod Maanjhi at Nishad Raj Ghat on Saturday. Shambhu Maanjhi, a leader of the boatmen community, announced that Nishadraj Jayanti will be observed on this day. Every year, Varanasi's ghats host grand celebrations for Nishadraj Jayanti, featuring vibrant processions along the Ganges and various cultural events.
This year, Varanasi will witness an even grander celebration of Nishad Jayanti. Unanimously, it was decided to completely suspend boat operations in reverence for this occasion. Not a single boat will navigate the Ganges on this day. Shambhu emphasized the significance of Nishad Raj in their lives and their elaborate commemoration of his Jayanti.
Throughout April 13th, prayers and rituals, along with diverse cultural events, will be held at different ghats. Hence, boat operations will remain suspended, allowing devotees to fully immerse themselves in the festivities without any distractions.
Nishadraj Jayanti is not just a celebration; it's a manifestation of reverence and tradition deeply rooted in the ethos of Varanasi. Experience the rich cultural tapestry of this ancient city as it pays homage to its revered deity on this auspicious day.
