Celebrated 15 days after Diwali, Dev Deepawali in Varanasi is a unique festival blending worship, bathing in the holy river, and illuminating the surroundings with divine lamps. The city, Uttar Pradesh's cultural capital, is gearing up for this extravaganza, expecting a staggering influx of 1 million tourists. To ensure an unparalleled experience, elaborate security measures have been meticulously planned, involving 70 watchtowers strategically positioned across the 84 ghats of Varanasi.
The cultural hub is embracing the spirit of Dev Deepawali with fervor, initiating preparations that include the construction of an impregnable fortress around the city. Kashi, divided into 9 zones, 11 sectors, and 32 sub-sectors, has undergone thorough security arrangements to safeguard its 84 ghats.
The security blueprint extends to the narrow lanes of Varanasi, where 20 teams from the Quick Response Team (QRT) will be deployed. Deputy Commissioner of Police, R.S. Gautam, highlights the anticipation of massive crowds at seven prominent ghats—Assi Ghat, Dashashwamedh Ghat, Ahilyabai Ghat, Raj Ghat, Chet Singh Ghat, Namo Ghat, and Panchganga Ghat. Rigorous security plans have been devised, ensuring the safety of these ghats and deploying forces at significant points within the intricate lanes adjoining the ghats.
Dev Deepawali isn't just a festival; it's an immersive cultural experience that Varanasi unfolds with precision and security, inviting visitors to partake in the divine festivities amidst the spiritual resonance of the Ganges.
