Artificial Intelligence and Its Impact on India

In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) has gained significant attention and discussion due to various reasons and issues. Artificial intelligence is a branch of computer science that aims to create intelligent machines. Recently, there has been an agreement between the Indian government's policy commission, NITI Aayog, and Google to collaborate on several initiatives with the goal of advancing both India's indigenous artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) ecosystem, which will help in building the AI ecosystem in the country.

NITI Aayog has been entrusted with the responsibility of developing a national program for research and development in technologies like AI, as well as preparing a national strategy for AI. To fulfill this responsibility, NITI Aayog is working on the National Artificial Intelligence Policy with the National Data and Analytics Portal to enable widespread utilization of artificial intelligence.

Google's artificial intelligence company, DeepMind, is working on several projects in collaboration with the British National Health Service. Artificial intelligence and machine learning are often used interchangeably, but there is a clear distinction between the two to avoid confusion.

What is Artificial Intelligence (AI)?

In simple terms, artificial intelligence refers to the development of a machine's ability to think, understand, and make decisions. Artificial intelligence is considered the most advanced form of computer science, and it involves creating a mind in a machine, one that can think like humans.

Types of Artificial Intelligence

1. Purely Reactive AI: These AI systems operate solely based on pre-defined rules and do not possess memory or learning capabilities.

2. Limited Memory AI: These systems have some form of memory and can learn from the past but are not truly self-aware.

3. Theory of Mind AI: This level of AI is hypothetical and would require machines to understand human emotions and thoughts.

4. Self-Conscious AI: This is the most advanced form of AI, where machines possess self-awareness and human-like thinking.

Artificial intelligence had its beginnings in the 1950s. According to its founder, John McCarthy, it means developing a machine that is intellectually capable. It is considered as the science and engineering of making intelligent machines, especially intelligent computer programs.

It involves creating computer systems or robotic systems that can be run based on reasoning, which mimics the way the human brain works. This is done to build a computer system that can think like humans.

In Conclusion

Artificial intelligence is about developing artificial (man-made) intelligence. This is achieved by creating a machine or software that has the ability to think and learn. AI aims to simulate the problem-solving, decision-making, and learning abilities of the human mind. It's a fascinating field with enormous potential for transforming industries and improving our daily lives.
