Varanasi, a city known for its spiritual heritage, is all set to welcome a new landmark in the form of the Sigra Stadium. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate this state-of-the-art sports facility in September. This event marks a significant development in the region, promising extensive benefits for sports enthusiasts and athletes across Varanasi and the entire Purvanchal area.
The construction of Sigra Stadium is targeted to be completed by August. The second and third phases of the project, which include crucial infrastructure and facilities, are in their final stages of completion. Authorities are working tirelessly to ensure the stadium is ready for the grand inauguration by the Prime Minister.
The stadium boasts modern amenities and resources aimed at fostering a robust sporting culture. The second phase includes the construction of two hostels, each with 100 beds, designated for female and male athletes respectively. The infrastructure for various sports, such as a football field, cricket practice pitches, and volleyball courts, is already complete. Additionally, a synthetic track for morning walks is 90% finished, ensuring the stadium offers comprehensive facilities for fitness and training.
With the operationalization of Sigra Stadium, athletes in Purvanchal will gain access to international-level facilities. This development means that local athletes will no longer need to travel outside the region for high-quality training and amenities. The stadium will support training for over 22 sports, providing a significant boost to the local sports ecosystem.
Kaushal Raj Sharma, the Divisional Commissioner, emphasized the commitment to completing the stadium's construction by August. He mentioned that the executing agency has been instructed to avoid any delays. While the exact date of the inauguration is yet to be finalized, the final decision rests with the central government.
